Kopparossa is the creation of two Australia’s most famous, decorated and creative wine makers: Gavin Hogg and Mike Press.
“Gifted” Gavin Hogg has been in the game since 1973 and from 1980 – 1998 was one of the most senior winemakers of the Mildara Blass empire. He was the man responsible for making Jamiesons Run, won it a Jimmy Watson trophy and produced scores of gold medals and more than 20 trophies for his wines, mainly from the famous Connawarra red dirt.
Mike has been in the wine industry since 1963 and has held the lofty positions of Chief Winemaker at Seppelt, Production Manager at Penfolds, Winemaker at the “original” Krondorf before being made Chief Winemaker of the Mildara Blass group from 1986- 1996.
The wines themselves are fabulous, and unlike many Australian reds are not released and consumed as babies, well before reaching their best. We are releasing 1999 and 2000 vintage products with the advent of the agency and good volumes of 2001 and 2002 are sitting quietly in bottle and oak awaiting appropriate release dates.
The grapes for these marvelous wines come from the private vineyards of Mike and Gavin in Coonawarra and Wrattonbully (also a Limestone Coast district), and in future may also include some of Mike’s highly acclaimed Adelaide Hills fruit.
